Before this course, EDCI338, I think social media is just a tool for entertainment and sharing of life, and there is no need to pay too much attention. But at the end of this course, I changed my mind. Social media is a tool closely related to life, and we also need to manage it well. In this course, I learned the importance of digital identity/reputation. In the network, each of our actions will affect our digital identity, and digital identity can represent us, and maintaining a good reputation sometimes brings benefits. For example, when we are seeking career development, employers can filter by looking at the digital identities of job applicants. A good digital identity can bring a deep impression. Therefore, managing a PLN will also help our future career development. In this course, we will create a blog every week to share our views on PLN and social media. PLN is equivalent to an online community, we will get to know different people and different opinions, thus forming a diversified community. In the opinion, there will be positive or negative. Therefore, inclusiveness is a necessary condition for the development of our PLN. Accepting the views of reflection, identification and criticism can make the PLN community more professional.

• Do you continue with your created content and your network, how do you use your skills in professional practice?

Similarly, I will continue to keep the blog updated and share content frequently. This is also a way to maintain the development of our digital identity. Blogs can make me pay attention to Internet trends, and it is helpful to update our professional skills. For example, I will follow bloggers related to my profession, interact with them, and get their experience so that I can update my professional knowledge. By share professional content in the blog, analyze and reflect with the audience, so as to make yourself more progress.

This course gave me some new perspectives on social media and new ideas for my future professional development. I think in the future, I will continue to pay more attention to social media, create opportunities in online social media to make yourself more progressive.

If your PLN can be used to help professional development post-course?

I think PLN will be of great help to my professional development after the course. PLN is an online community where we can meet different people and learn all kinds of information. Creating a PLN can attract people, and maintaining the development of PLN can stabilize the relationship. In today’s society, I think relationships are very important. Getting a good relationship can help career development and open up space for career advancement. We express our opinions in PLN and get opportunities by communicating with people. It can also help me have a clearer plan for future development.

Can your PLN be relied on to open professional opportunities and on which platform does your emerging expertise get good exposure?

I think it is possible to rely on PLN to open up professional opportunities. PLN can have good publicity, show its profession on the platform, let people be attracted by it. Better improvement in communication. For example, Twitter. Twitter is a good learning platform where people can browse all kinds of things they are interested in. I can also post my emerging professional knowledge on Twitter, so that the audience can recognize my profession and can forward it.

Can you leverage your PLN in future endeavours?

At work, PLN is a very useful tool. The people I met in PLN may be of great help to my career. For example, when I encounter difficulties at work, I can seek help in PLN, and people will give their opinions to help me solve the difficulties in my career. In addition, we can also discuss professional topics in PLN. People in the same field can discuss and exchange ideas together, which can also improve my work development.

With consideration to the reading and video interview, how do you ensure that you expand your PLN via social media platforms into spaces that may be outside of your comfort zone?

As I think, in PLN we will meet different people, learn more information, and get more novel ideas. In communicating through social media, we will find many different areas of expertise. When combined with your own profession, it will become a new innovation and an opportunity. As Amber said in the video, she is a nurse, but after taking advantage of the transformation opportunity combined with her professional knowledge, she found that she can also use new methods to better help patients.

In social media platforms, we are mainly to show ourselves, share our thoughts and listen to others’ opinions at the same time. So in the face of audiences who are critical of my work, I can have open discussions. Criticism is also an incentive. After the discussion, I can make corrections and make progress. This is also a way to promote the development of PLN. Regarding how many personal identities should be associated with professional social media platforms, I think it is necessary to clarify one’s cultural background. Because when people read, they need to interpret the content according to the context, and to prevent offending the culture. As Harrison Mooney said in the video, people know he likes hockey and think he is a white man. But after getting to know him, people are surprised. So people don’t refer to personal identities on social media platforms, and it’s easy to understand the problem based on their own thinking.

In this course, I think PLN is a diversified social media platform. People of different cultural backgrounds share different ideas. To reduce prejudice, we need to welcome all kinds of voices into PLN, listen to voices from different cultural backgrounds, and try to understand the lifestyles of others. Let PLN become an inclusive and diverse platform.

About my identity and how to adapt to my PLN. As an Asian, the younger generation. I think I have a good tolerance for my PLN, I like to listen to different voices, like to study new things, and welcome all new ideas, regardless of approval or criticism.

Of course, in social media platforms, I will divide personal and professional boundaries. Although all show ideas. But I think that personal social media will be biased towards life, a more authentic one, and easier communication. Professional social networking needs to be biased towards professionalism. We need to be cautious about the content we publish, and the content will have an impact on our career development.

Open dialogues about media literacy and factual information can create conflict, I think the cause of conflict is that when people browse social media, they usually ignore media literacy. They do not think about media information, but blindly judge the facts based on the influence of the Internet.

            What is media literacy?

Media literacy is a kind of ability, people use this ability to contact, analyze or evaluate the complex information transmitted in the media platform. It can help people be more cautious and rational in the face of information, and make more informed choices.

             Why is it important?

Why media literacy is important, because media literacy refers to the ability of information selection, questioning, understanding and reaction that people show when facing various information in different media. In social media platforms, media literacy means not only the literacy of interpreting and receiving information, but also the literacy of disseminating and producing information.

   Why is it dismissed?

The reason why media literacy is dismissed is because people blindly believe in following the pandemic in the media platform, people do not think and judge, and believe that influential content equals real information. Searching for the content they want to see, agreeing without interpreting it. As a result, people gradually dismiss media literacy.

         Why should you aim for varied views but factual consensus in your PLN?

In PLN, we share our thoughts and opinions with everyone, which will attract people with various opinions on the network. People exchange ideas with each other in PLN, and each exchange of different viewpoints is a learning opportunity. Tolerance and acceptance of various viewpoints can make PLN more diversified and promote PLN to develop better.

Therefore, the benefits of having a good media literacy PLN can help us improve our ability to understand the nature and form of information carried and broadcast by the media, familiar with the methods of seeking information, and have the ability to evaluate, explain, distinguish, select, organize and ability to aggregate information.

In my social media, negative responses are inevitable, because everyone has different values ​​and ideas. We cannot ask everyone to agree. So when an employer wants to use a person’s social media to judge employment, terminate or suspend individuals who do not meet the expectations of social media, I think this is indeed a feasible method, but it cannot be a standard. Diversification can help a company grow. Regarding how celebrities use social media, I think they need to pay attention to what they post. Although it is their freedom to publish any speech on the Internet, their words are influential and people are paying attention to them, so it is recommended to consider them before publishing any content. And the most important thing they need to pay attention to when using social media is to protect their personal accounts. Social media accounts can be linked to everything, so prevent others from stealing account privacy.

Having a popular PLN can of course also bring benefits to career development. First of all, PLN can share my thoughts and opinions with everyone. A popular PLN means that everyone is attracted by my ideas and is also a performance that recognizes me. When an employer wants to know me, this will also become a resume. Or when I develop my career, this will also become an excellent resource for the company.

I think that the advantage of employers establishing online communities and social media directly related to employment is that people can only post content related employment and content and display their resumes. Employers can also understand the content more directly. Regarding the limitation, I think it should be that this cannot fully show a person’s ideas or values ​​on the platform.

In the Internet, we establish our own PLN and publish our own ideas. At the same time, we also need to receive and transmit information to develop PLN. So when browsing the page, we need to observe the interactive dynamics and the content to judge whether it is trustworthy. Setting message permissions is also a way. Categorize unfamiliar messages and set some as permission after reading. In this way, slowly build a PLN that you can always rely on.

I think how an experienced storyteller can minimize misinformation sharing, he can build a team or have a trusted person such as a pen pal. Browse the content to the team or pen pal before each publication. Listen to their opinions or whether they agree. This may be a way to reduce risk.

Nowadays, almost everyone can browse the web. In social media sharing, people from different cultures and backgrounds will follow the same topic at the same time. As a result, there will be many different types of views. When we started to share our views on the platform, the diversity and inclusiveness of the Internet made us not worry about our views being excluded. Everyone can view my views, everyone can agree or disagree, and can also work together to analyze. Diversity allows us to receive different information. You can find like-minded people to discuss topics together.

Social media allows people to view information anytime, anywhere, and facilitates people’s rhythm. Like a way of communication, people can leave messages in the community. The time zone and region restrictions can be ignored in the network platform, and people can share information at any time. Social media helps people participate in more communication without restrictions.

Because nowadays, almost people can express opinions on the Internet without restriction. Sometimes the platform cannot restrict the censorship of people’s speech. When some people publish their speech, it will have a bad influence on others and can easily insult each other. These behaviors cannot be controlled in the platform. So, communicating in social media can sometimes be a challenge.

I think that in community participation, the extended rules proposed by the employer should be considered. Making rules can make people in the community feel that everyone is equal and better control community development. At the same time, cultural sensitivity also needs to be considered. I think this means that I need to communicate with people extensively, get to know different people, understand different perspectives, and develop myself.

When the community knows more about my identity, I feel that I need to consider the combination of the published content and current popular factors, so that my PLN can maintain traffic and develop influence. Only when combined with the trend, people will continue to follow and attract more attention. This is an effective way to continue to develop PLN in my opinion.

According to my personal learning network, I think there are two types of PLN. My personal blog and my personal Twitter. In my learning network, there are opinions from various voices, and they all have different proportions. I think every opinion is valuable, and I will learn, no matter whether they are obvious or not. Because everyone will browse my network with their own ideas. Although some ideas will be mostly the same, there will be unique and interesting opinions that help me improve.
In the learning network, setting up tags can also find related similar thematic groups. Joining groups to discuss and exchange ideas can help develop a more professional personal learning network.
In PLN, suggestions from all quarters help us expand and improve our personal network.
